Ed Carpenter Shocks Field for Pole in Kentucky
Ed Carpenter nearly pulled the upset last year at Kentucky, coming home a close second to Ryan Briscoe. This year, he has set himself up for another run at his first win, as he stunned the field to take pole for Saturday night's Kentucky Indy 300. The part-timer knocked off Penske's Will Power late in the session, who was easily ahead of the rest of the field at that point. Read on

Pippa Mann, after barely missing out on her first career win last week, captured her second career pole this week. Mann beat out AFS/Andretti Autosport teammate Martin Plowman and Charlie Kimball to claim the top grid spot for tomorrow's Drive Smart Buckle-Up 100.
In a session that was briefly interrupted by rain, Dario Franchitti continued his momentum from Chicagoland by leading the opening practice for tomorrow night's Kentucky Indy 300. Helio Castroneves, Scott Dixon, Dan Wheldon, and Ryan Briscoe made up the rest of the top five. Will Power, who lost more than 30 points off his lead last week, could only run 10th best on Friday afternoon.
Paul Tracy and Graham Rahal were originally slated to miss this weekend's Kentucky Indy 500. However, Tracy will fill in for the still injured Mike Conway, who could return for the season finale at Homestead-Miami, and Rahal will take Jay Howard's spot in Service Central No.
With the laps ticking down, and the front runners three and four wide, Alex Lloyd spun unassisted into the infield, bringing out the the final caution and setting up for what would be the complexion changing pitstop of the race. Before the pitstop, Will Power, Dan Wheldon and Marco Andretti were heatedly contesting for the win.
Those in attendance for this afternoon's Chicagoland 100, the appetizer to the main course of the PEAK Antifreeze & Moter Oil Indy 300, were treated to quite a show, as Pippa Mann narrowly missed her first Indy Lights victory, succumbing to the hard charging James Hinchcliffe in the third closest finish in Indy Lights history following an attrition filled 67 laps.
